Rebuilding lives through creative expression

It's a formula we know works. Softacare artistic Xpress programs create transformative experiences for kids in care. Each program is carefully designed to build their confidence and expose them to creative skills and experiences that bring joy, laughter and helps them develop as individuals.

No kid should feel like the odd one out, which is why we involve them together in activities like creating art, writing music, performance and dance. They learn to express themselves in healthy ways and strengthen their self-identities. It's a magical experience for the kids, critical support for careers, and a proven way to impact entire communities.

XPRESS WORKSHOPS

Who are the workshops for?

Xpress workshops are for kids of all ages in foster or kinship care. Workshops run all day and are tailored for kids aged 6-12 or young people 13 to 18. Kids have an experience they will never forget - unlocking healthy self-expression in often ground breaking ways. Fun, new skills are learnt in a judgement-free space transforming confidence and putting the young person at the centre of creating their own positive experience. Of course it’s also a respite day for carers, giving them some much needed time off and connects them to others in the community.

What do they learn?

Xpress workshops can cover a range of dance, art or music skills at all levels. Younger foster children might learn to Hip Hop dance, the basics of circus performing or African drumming as a team. Teenagers could experience first time playing an electric guitar, create a collaborative performance piece, or express themselves by producing their very own professional music track mentored by professional musicians and sound technicians. All Xpress workshops culminate in a fantastic end-of-day performance which shows kids the power of their own voice and the value (and fun!) of working as a team.
